Does My Dog Need to Be Trained for a Dog Photoshoot

“Does my dog need to be trained for a professional dog photoshoot?”

The short answer is: no!

If that’s all you need to know, feel free to book a consultation with me by clicking here!

If you need more assurance and information, then keep reading, my friend.

No, your dog does not need to be trained for a professional dog photoshoot. Trust me when I say, I’ve seen it all! Every dog has their own quirks and personality, and I love being able to capture that for pet parents. I don’t need them to be able to sit or stay at all.

I’d love to dive deeper into this topic and tell you why your dog’s training level doesn’t matter!

Outdoor Dog Photoshoot for ALL Dogs

1. All Dogs Wear a Leash - When looking through my gallery page, you might wonder how it’s pawsible that none of these dogs are wearing a leash. Most of them actually are wearing one! I simply edit them out in post-production. Your dog’s safety is my number one priority during our session. Because our dog photoshoots take place outside, it’s typically safest for them to stay on a leash. So, you don’t need to worry about your dog who loves to run off and sniff! And yes, I do run after dogs, climb on trees, and roll in the mud to get the shots if that’s what it takes.

2. Commands Aren’t Needed Here - Sure, sit and say can be helpful, but they aren’t needed. During the photoshoot, we’ll work as a team to gently guide your dog into any poses we’re going for throughout the session. I have many, many tricks up my sleeve to get the perfect portrait (more on that below). Truth be told, your dog is really the one in charge here! We’re just out here to have fun, and I’m there with my camera capturing every cute head tilt, prance, and run.

3. Every Trick in the Book - I use every trick in the book to get your dog to look at me for the purfect portrait. If your dog is food motivated, I have the tastiest treats provided by Chippin. I can use different whistles or clicks to get them to look at me. During our complimentary consultation, we’ll chat about your dog’s personality and what he likes, so that I come to the session well prepared. There’s something for everyone!

4. Dog’s Best Friend -  I got my pet photography start by volunteering to photograph dogs in nearby shelters. With that experience, I had to learn how to get the perfect photo and quickly! I knew that just like every human, every dog is different. I always took a few moments to warm up to the dog and learn as much about their personality as I could before I even took a photo. I do sometimes show the dogs the photos I take of them so they can see how great they look. I met thousands of dogs who were all different breeds, comfort levels, and training abilities, and I was able to capture photos for all of them. I know I can do the same for your dog, too!
