Del Ray (a.k.a “Dog Ray”)
Dog Ray, I mean, Del Ray, has rightfully earned this nickname thanks to its warm, welcoming vibe and love of all things dog! The locals here celebrate their pets with immense pride, from the colorful mural along the main street to the annual Del Ray Dog Fest, which I’ve had the honor of photographing for the past two years! The festival brings together dog lovers, small businesses, and non-profit organizations, all in support of Alexandra’s pet community.
Old Town Alexandria
Old Town is another favorite spot for dogs and their people! This beautiful area is steeped in colonial charm, history, and just bustling with energy. This area offers backdrops for portraits and lots of room for pups to play along the waterfront or at Oronoco Bay Park. Old Town also hosts some of Alexandria’s biggest pet events, including the ALX Dog Walk each April and Paws in the Park every October. I’m proud to be the furtographer for both of these events!

The locals know there is a friendly rivalry between Old Town and Del Ray over which one is the most dog-friendly.

Oronoco Bay Park & the Waterfront
Old Town’s waterfront is one of my favorite spots for dog photography, offering a mix of scenic views and historic charm. The time of day makes all the difference here: sunrise sessions take advantage of the light over the water for soft, glowing portraits, while evening sessions are perfect for capturing the architecture and lively atmosphere along the cobblestone streets. Oronoco Bay Park, with its open fields and river backdrop, is especially great for dogs who love to run and play.
Tide Lock Park (Old Town North)
Tucked away in Old Town North, Tide Lock Park is another gem for dog photography. It offers open space and a peaceful atmosphere — perfect for capturing relaxed portraits of you and your pup. Some of my recent sessions here highlight just how versatile this location can be.

Just outside of Old Town, Westgrove Dog Park is a local favorite for four-legged fun. The park is known for its off-leash area and its quirky summer tradition, Hot Dog Fridays, which bring together neighbors and their pets for a relaxed, dog-loving community vibe.
Dog-Friendly Cafés & Restaurants
Sometimes the best photo spots are where you’d least expect them! Like the outdoor patios of Alexandria’s dog-friendly cafés. Favorites include Lost Dog Café, St. Elmo’s Coffee Pub in Del Ray, and the wine bar Mount Purrnon, which I can’t wait to explore. Many restaurants around the city welcome dogs at their outdoor seating, often bringing water bowls to the table, and some even offer pup-friendly menus.
Trusted Event Photographer in Alexandria’s Pet Community
One of the things I love most about being an Alexandria dog photographer is getting to be part of the city’s vibrant pet community. Beyond private sessions, I’ve had the honor of serving as the official “furtographer” for some of the area’s most beloved dog-friendly events.
Del Ray Dog Fest – Each April, Del Ray comes alive with dogs, families, and local businesses. I photographed this community celebration last year and plan to again next year, capturing everything from pups in costume to the joy of neighbors coming together for a great cause.
ALX Dog Walk – Hosted in Old Town each spring, this event combines sustainability with pet love. I’m proud to be the official photographer in 2026, documenting dogs and their people strolling along the waterfront.
Paws in the Park – Every October, Oronoco Bay Park turns into a celebration of pets and their families. As the official event photographer, I’ve had the privilege of capturing this fundraiser for the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA).
Yappy Hour at ALX Community – I also cover smaller but equally fun events like Yappy Hour, where local professionals and their dogs gather at a pet-friendly coworking space for a casual, community-focused evening.
